A Day In The Life Of... Recruitment
What do you do?
I’m the Internal Recruiter at nDreams! My role includes identifying current and future hiring needs, advertising job openings online, and managing the recruitment process from start to finish. This includes sourcing national and international candidates, evaluating applicants, managing multiple live job vacancies and successfully meeting our hiring plan.
How do you fit into nDreams
I work with all the hiring managers at nDreams across all the studio disciplines and departments – from finance and facilities to coding and creative! I help them with writing the job advertisements and making sure they know what they want. We are a fast growing studio and in order to ensure we meet recruitment needs I need to deal with pretty much all disciplines across the business…
What kind of skills and experience do you need to be effective in your role?
This role involves speaking to many different people across all areas and at all levels, from graduates through to senior managers. Being organised and having excellent communication, relationship building and collaboration skills is essential! It is also great to have a solid understanding of the full recruitment cycle, with previous experience of working in recruitment or HR. Building good relationships with candidates through the recruitment cycle is so important from the beginning as it is entirely possible that we may not necessarily have a role at the time of application but a suitable role may become available later on and like to keep in touch with talented people..Making sure that every candidate has a positive experience is very important to us as a studio, so positive communication from both parties is key.
What do you love about your job?
I really love the variety of my role. The most rewarding part for me is seeing a recruit start in a new position at nDreams knowing that I have taken them through the full recruitment journey - from initial email contact all the way through to offering them the job!
What areas do you enjoy less?
Joining a new industry can be hard – picking up buzz words and becoming an expert in the games industry does take time. I wish I knew everything now! but each day I feel like I’m learning, thanks to the great team that I have around me at nDreams!
Tell us about a typical working day…
After attending to my 2 horses, 2 dogs, 1 cat and my child, my day begins! The core part of my role is managing Workable - our internal recruitment platform. With this tool, I ensure that all candidates have been updated and responded to and I manage our agencies and schedule interviews for national and international candidates. I also help the managers to write the adverts for any new job openings on the platform and other recruitment sites, as well as updating our website and working with our communications team to ensure we’re shouting about our exciting roles. I have many side-line projects which means that no two days are the same!
What about an un-typical day recently?
Last month, I attended the Grads in Games: Search For A Star event which was great fun. It took me right out of my comfort zone, but it really showed me just how much I have learnt about the games industry since I started at nDreams! Alongside judging various categories, we were there to meet interesting new graduate talent for the studio. I was also setting up, demonstrating & guiding people through playing Shooty Fruity (one of our recent titles) all whilst giving them an idea of what it’s like to work at nDreams.
How did you get started in the industry? Why did you join nDreams?
I joined nDreams in October 2018, I had been with my previous company for 7 years so making the change needed to be for something special. I was ready to join an up and coming industry - I knew the moment I walked into nDreams this would be the next step in my career.
This role gives me everything I want in the aspects I enjoy most. Most importantly I can grow with the company as we expand, and I am challenged every day.
Do you have any advice for people who want to do what you do?
If you like variety and being busy everyday, then this is the role for you! I have worked in HR and recruitment for 12 years and recruitment is certainly the part I like the best.
